What are quartz countertops?

Okay, so I know we already talked about quartz countertops in a previous blog, but with a demand for quartz tops on the rise, some people want to know more about it. Not only is it becoming more popular, we are almost seeing it overtake granite in the kitchen. Although quartz is a “man-made” countertop surface and many options appeal to the minimalist with its clean and contemporary design , newer styles are becoming more and more natural looking as time goes on. With a natural look and properties that make it virtually, maintenance free, quartz countertops may be the right choice for you.

As was stated just a moment ago, quartz countertops are a “man-made” surface. However, this doesn’t mean that all the elements are man-made. Using natural, incredibly hard, quarried quartz, it is ground into dust and other sizes depending on the style that the manufacturer is looking for. The quartz and other coloring aggregates are then combined with a high-strength, resin material, and compressed under an extreme amount of heat and pressure. This process creates a super dense product that is impenetrable by water. It’s also stain-proof and even scratch resistant.

In 1987, a company by the name of Caesarstone developed the first version of quartz. Since then, the manufactured surface industry has grown to include 8 quartz manufacturers. These manufacturers include:

Cambria, Silestone, Caesarstone, Technistone, Hanstone, CMMA Solid Surface, NaturaStone, Q, LG, Zodiaq and some other, less known manufacturers.
